That was the trigger that motivated him to self-study additional mathematics for one year before majoring in mathematics at the university level.
The Power of Self-Reliance and Dedication
The next turning point in Matthew’s life came during his university years. His family was not well off, with his father driving a bus and his mother a housewife—the reasons Matthew had to find ways of supporting his education on his own. He used to teach private and mathematics tuition classes, earning an income. This experience helped him not only financially but also in building a passion for teaching.
It was because many university lecturers failed to communicate mathematical concepts that motivated Matthew to develop his teaching methods. He wanted to make sure that any student would understand his lessons, unlike what he experienced with his professors. With a strong desire to improve his teaching methods, he began conquering his dreams of becoming a mathematics teacher.

Identification and Solution of Problems in Mathematics Education
Matthew identified problems in the current mathematics education system itself: assessment and competition—there is no public assessment for every grade; more problems of interest due to many internal assessments; and better schools having an advantage over worse schools, among others. He pointed out problems in the Mathematics Olympiad such as age restriction, questions beyond the syllabus, and unfairness created by the existence of paid preparation courses.
At the classroom level, he found that one set of schedules and syllabi for every child does not accommodate learning speed and requirements differences. The teachers covered those topics so fast, and sometimes it was noticed that the pupils could not grasp them properly, nor did they have time to ask questions. Talented students did not find motivation to learn harder and deeper; passive learning is much inferior compared to active learning.
Innovative Solutions: GMMO and Mathematician’s Dictionary
To solve these, Matthew designed two innovative projects: one is the Global Mathematics and Mathematics Olympiad Graded Assessment Test with Competition, abbreviated as GMMO, and another is the Mathematicians Dictionary. Physical and online exams of GMMO will make it easier and more transparent for assessments, having security measures on online exams through camera and audio monitoring for cheating avoidance.
Mathematician’s Dictionary is a computer-based learning system that encourages pupils to comprehend and solve problems on their own before advancing to the next level. Since this is a step-by-step process, a student can fully master each level before moving on to the next, thereby saving time that would have been wasted reviewing already understood material. Putting learning into a digital, automated process unifies textbooks, exercises, and lectures—now students can study mathematics anywhere and at any time and at their tempo.

Matthew’s vision lies beyond his initiatives. He believes that with the aid of automated systems, teachers will be lightened of workload and provide more of their talents to Mathematics Education. That was what, in the long run, aimed to replace more than 90% of jobs in math education with automated systems so future students would have a more personalized, thus effective learning experience.
He has to build up what he calls “personal achievement” to convince others that he is a very worthy leader.
